Fun facts
It sneaks into the nest of another bumblebee, most often the early bumblebee, and the workers there raise its young.
Sometimes it hides in the nest for a few days until it smells just like the nest, and then lays its eggs without being noticed.
It has no pollen baskets on its back legs, so it cannot carry pollen home like other bumblebees.
It never has worker bees of its own. Its daughters all grow up to be just like their mother.
In the far north of Scotland, a few have a yellow tail instead of a white one.
