The violet-winged mining bee is a shiny black bee with little tufts of white hair. Its wings shimmer with a bluish shine. It digs its nest in steep earth walls.

What does it eat?
It collects pollen and nectar only from mustard-family flowers, such as wild radish and wild mustard. The pollen is food for its babies.
