Fun facts

1

One colony can have between 1 and 2.5 million workers.

2

In one year a colony collects 85 to 470 kilograms of dried leaves and plants.

3

Workers carry the old, used-up fungus outside and pile it into tall, pointy rubbish heaps next to the nest.

4

The rubbish pellets are greyish white, and the ants drop them right at the top of the heap, which gives it its cone shape.

5

When enemy ants attack, it sends out its biggest workers, the soldiers, to fight.
