March moth

The March moth is a brownish grey moth that flies in early spring, when it is still cold. The boys have wings, but the girls have none at all. They crawl up tree trunks instead of flying.

The wingless girls are only about 1 centimetre long.
Its mouth for drinking is tiny and does not work well.
The caterpillar is pale green and smooth, and grows to about 2.6 centimetres long.
It can be a pest in orchards, because its caterpillars eat the leaves of fruit trees.
