Pallid twig ant

The pallid twig ant is a slender ant with big eyes. Its workers can be yellow, orange or brown. Instead of digging in the ground, it makes its home inside hollow dead grass stems and twigs.

How fast is it?
Fun facts
Its nest is inside a hollow dead grass stem or twig. The stem can be only 5 to 10 millimetres wide.
The door to the nest is so small that one worker can block it with her own body to keep enemies out.
One colony can have up to 15 queens and 20 to 200 workers.
A colony can live in several stems at once, a bit like one family with several houses.
Male ants only appear in summer and autumn. In winter there are none in the nests.
