Banded swallowtail

The banded swallowtail is a big brownish black butterfly. A wide, pale greenish band runs across all four of its wings like a sash. It lives in Southeast Asia, even in mangroves and on small islands.

The mother lays her eggs in a long string, and they hatch in only 3 or 4 days.
Its caterpillars stay together in groups their whole caterpillar life.
After about twelve days in the chrysalis, the butterfly comes out.
You can see the grown-ups from January to October.
