Chestnut tiger

The chestnut tiger is a large butterfly with long wings. Its front wings are black with big bluish-white, see-through patches, and its back wings are chestnut red. It lives along the Himalayas and in East Asia.

A full-grown caterpillar is about 4 centimetres long, yellowish green with rows of yellow spots and long thin feelers.
Its pupa is pale emerald green with golden yellow spots, like a little jewel.
Eggs laid in September can turn into butterflies the next April.
In 1987 North Korea put it on a postage stamp.
