The oak leafshredder is a small moth with bell-shaped wings that can be yellow, brown or even purple. Its caterpillars are clever builders. They tie oak leaves together with silk and live inside them like in a little tent.

The mother lays single eggs on oak twigs in June. They wait all winter and hatch the next April.
When the caterpillars are ready to change, they let themselves down to the ground on silk threads.
They turn into moths among the fallen leaves on the forest floor.
When there are very many caterpillars, they can eat so many leaves that oak trees get badly damaged.
A fully grown caterpillar is about 12 millimetres long and dirty white to light green.
