The horned dor beetle is a small, round, shiny black beetle. The male has a thin horn on his head that he can move. It lives such a hidden life that scientists still know very little about it.

Besides the big horn on his head, the male has two smaller horns on the sides of his neck shield.
The female has no horn. She has a small ridge with two little bumps instead.
The ends of its feelers are made of small leaves that it can open and close.
It was first described in 1772, and since then it has had many different scientific names.
