Eastern dappled white

The eastern dappled white is a white butterfly with black wing tips and a black spot on each front wing. Underneath, black and yellow scales mix into a greenish white pattern. It lives on rocky slopes and meadows in southern Europe and Asia.

Its wings measure 36 to 48 millimetres from tip to tip.
It looks almost exactly like its cousin, the western dappled white, and is very hard to tell apart.
Its caterpillar can be yellowish, greenish or bluish, with side stripes and lots of tiny black dots.
In most places it has two families a year, but in mountains and very dry places only one.
It flies from early March to early July.
