Fun facts

1

The female's wings are so tiny you can hardly see them. The male's wings are a bit bigger, but still short.

2

Because it is so small and has such short wings, people often mix it up with a baby grasshopper.

3

The female has a long, curved egg-laying tube at the end of her body, so with it she can be up to 26 millimetres long.

4

You can meet grown-up crickets from July until November. The young ones live down in the fallen leaves.

5

It notices when its forest changes, so scientists use it to check how healthy a forest is.
