The confusing furrow bee is a tiny bee with a shiny greenish head and chest. It is easy to mix up with other bees, which is how it got its name. The bees live together in nests in the ground, with a queen and her daughters.

In Britain the only sure way to tell it from a look-alike bee is to look very closely at the males with a microscope.
The mated young queens sleep through the winter and start new nests in spring.
