Fun facts

1

There are no boys at all. The mothers lay eggs without needing a male.

2

The babies, called crawlers, can walk. Once a crawler finds a good spot, it loses its legs and stays there for the rest of its life.

3

A crawler can be carried to a new tree by the wind or even on a bird's foot.

4

The little holes it makes let in a fungus that causes beech bark disease, which can kill big trees.

5

It only lives on beech trees that are at least 30 years old.
