The hoary leafcutter bee is a medium-sized bee from the southeastern United States and the islands of Bermuda. The males and females have different colours, and the females can be very dark. It belongs to the leafcutter bees.

In the United States it lives from Virginia down to Florida and west to Texas, mostly along the coast.
On Bermuda it now lives only in a small nature reserve, mostly on Nonsuch Island.
On Bermuda it is the only insect or spider that is protected by law.
Scientists found that the Bermuda bees are a bit different in their genes from the American ones.
